Obituary: Jardin Majorelle Foundation’s Quito Fierro, 56

PARIS — Quito Fierro, vice president and secretary general of the Jardin Majorelle Foundation, died Thursday at age 56, according to a post uploaded on the foundation’s Instagram page on Friday.
The cause of his death could not immediately be learned.
The foundation operates the Jardin Majorelle garden in Marrakech, Morocco, as well as the Berber Museum opened on its grounds in 2011 by the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent.
Created by French painter Jacques Majorelle, the landscaped botanical garden and on-site private residence, Villa Oasis, was acquired by Saint Laurent and Bergé in 1980 and became the property of the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent in 2010. More than 700,000 people, both tourists and Moroccan citizens, visit the site each year, according to the foundation’s Web site.
Fierro, a lifelong friend of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, was a founding member of the Jardin Majorelle and contributed to its international renown, the foundation said.
“We lose a friend, but we will remember him as a beautiful person,” it wrote.
